Behind us literally is the town ... and the Motel that has great food AND free WiFi |
The only rig in Oceanside RV Park in Port aux Choix |
Norris Point ... nice spot ... lousy lunch |
Norris Point Gros Morne National Park |
The over look over Norris Point. That small finger of land sticking into the water is called a "Tickle" in "Newf speak" |
Oceanside ... what a nice quiet place to stay. We were here in sun, rain and wind ... it is always beautiful! |
Taking in the beauty |
Wild Blue Flag Iris |

More Icebergs as we head north. This is in St. Lunaire -- an outport for St Anthony |
These are sleighs made just the size of the firewood needed to heat the houses during the winter. They fill them up as needed, hook up to their snowmobiles |
All over the place, on the roadside, are these stacks of wood for the winter. They are near the road so that the snowmobiles can easily reach them even in the worst snow |
A lawn ornament --- the Newfi's are not all class |
A close up of a firewood sleigh |
We got some good shots of icebergs here on the Northern Peninsula. Closer than in Twillingate |
These guys are huge |
right on the road side. No one steals anything here |
Lots of wood ... a sleigh ... hey, we are ready for winter |
Road side garden |
Ships Cove and still more icebergs |
Hard to see here, but this is really a beautiful, colourful garden |
This looks like a really neat shot, but if you will look at the picture above, you can see that they are only models |
Cape Onion ... more beauty |
more icebergs off the Cape Onion |
Ships Cove cemetery overlooking Cape Onion |

Lots of B & B's in Newfoundland. This one is called the Tickle Inn. About 100 yards to the water's edge |
Another one of the road side gardens |
Raleigh Dock. The Caplin boats were just coming in. Apparently, they off loaded 125 tonnes of these little guys over the weekend |
like a smelt or a small sardine. Good to eat whole ... just fried in butter ... but the roe was prized |
Here the fellow I was talking to, was offering to "fill my pockets" if I wanted |
Caplin roe ... a delicacy raw or cooked ... I'm told |
Lots of talkin and not much workin |
All the houses are beautifully painted ... grass cut ... and wood stacked at the back |
There are three or four of these ecological reserves up the coast of the Northern Peninsula. This one is Burnt Cape |
Hey ... thinks Elsie ... a gravel road into the Reserve, and no "Do Not Trespass" sign. Let's Go!!! |
Needless to say .... the road is rough, rocky and car breaking ... Elsie was in her 2nd child hood |
We were there shot |
This is the "Big Red Bus" from Germany. They sleep, and eat on this thing. It pulls up, people jump out, they set up a kitchen in minutes, dinner is cooked, the people grab a shower in the Park Comfort Station, and they head to bed. Hmmm |
Proof we saw a moose. Actually we saw 2 cow moose, one male and a female elk. None of them hit us!! |
The lighthouse just north of Port aux Choix ... yeah another gravel road |
Elsie sure has something about these lighthouses |
Hmmm ... Dr Freud ... what do you think? |
Port aux Choix from the Lighthouse road |
Sunset from Harvey at the Oceanside Park |
Road work on the Northern Highway. This was brutal!!! |
The result of the road work ... Honda Flat tire being repaired in Codroy ... Thanks guys |
